Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Services

Summary

This position works with the Student-Athlete Services team to provide academic support to the 18 intercollegiate athletic teams, approximately 450 student-athletes, as well as coordinates the NCAA Student-Athlete development program. He/she also assists coaches, athletic administrators, university administrators, and faculty with any and all concerns as they relate to the academic needs and overall development of the student-athlete.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate the academic support program/services for assigned varsity teams.

  • Maintain individual weekly meetings with first-year and academically underprepared student-athletes.

  • Generate and distribute weekly academic reports and summaries to coaching staffs of assigned teams

  • Promote positive working relationships with our campus partners including the Registrar, Advising and Planning, Student Engagement and Success, Accessibility Services, Orientation, and faculty.

  • Recommend effective learning strategies to enhance student-athletes’ academic skill set.

  • Monitor student-athlete’s NCAA academic eligibility through the use of University student systems.

  • Assist student-athletes with course selection and registration, ensuring that course schedules are balanced and meet their academic needs and interest.

  • Regularly communicating with coaching staff any issues relevant to student-athletes’ academic success.

  • Meet with prospective student-athletes, parents, and/or guardians about the academic programs and services provided at BGSU. 

  • Prepare transfer evaluation for prospective incoming transfer student-athletes

  • Engage in the planning, logistics, and implementation of student-athlete events, to include Falcons Back in Action, Graduation Celebrations, and the Ziggys.

  • Assist with APR and GSR data for assigned sports

  • Assist with the academic awards and recognition process for student-athletes

  • Support department and campus-wide student success efforts through participation in a variety of department activities and committee work.

  • Other duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications

The following Degree is required:

  • Bachelor's Degree

The following Experience is required:

  • 6 months experience working with collegiate student-athletes 

The following Experience is preferred:

  • Experience working with collegiate student-athletes with broad backgrounds and experiences
