Assistant Athletic Trainer

Responsibilities include the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athlete injuries, along with maintaining accurate medical records and ensuring compliance with NCAA, institutional, and conference regulations. The role involves daily supervision of the athletic training facility, regular attendance at practices and competitions, and participation in the medical clearance process for student-athletes.

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is expected to communicate effectively with coaches, student-athletes, and medical professionals, manage administrative duties, including injury documentation and insurance processing. Additional responsibilities include serving as a preceptor for athletic training students, coordinating drug testing protocols, and supporting education initiatives related to athlete health and safety.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·        Demonstrates compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations established by the Athletics Department, the College, the NCAA and the USA South Athletic Conference.

·        Maintain effective communication with student-athletes, coaches, and medical staff regarding health, safety, and readiness to participate.

·        Maintain timely injury tracking and documentation for those sports assigned. Document and manage confidential medical records using appropriate terminology and systems.

·        Maintain administrative duties such as timely processing of insurance claims.

·        Assist with the development and implementation of Athletic Training program policies and procedures.

·        Provide comprehensive athletic training services including injury prevention, recognition, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation.

·        Refer cases beyond scope of practice to appropriate medical professionals.

·        Serve as a preceptor for athletic training students, providing orientation, education, and evaluation.

·        Educate students on health insurance procedures related to athletic injuries.

·        Coordinate medical clearance for intercollegiate athletes and ensure compliance with CPR/AED, First Aid, and concussion protocols.

·        Serve as Drug Testing Coordinator and implement related policies and education.

·        Collect and analyze injury data to inform prevention strategies.

·        Participate in professional development and continuing education.

·        Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer and Associate VP for Athletics

QUALIFICATIONS:

Desired qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and current NATA certification; BOC Certification and eligible to be licensed in the State of North Carolina.  Applicant must have current first aid/CPR/AED certification.
