
Director of Track and Field/Head Coach
Position Title: Director of ETSU Track and Field/Head Coach
Department: Athletics
Classification: Full-Time
Reports To: Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director/SWA
Position Summary
The Director of Track & Field is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and success of a NCAA Division I Track & Field and Cross-Country program. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction for all aspects of the program, including recruiting, student-athlete development, coaching, academic success, compliance, budget management, and community engagement.
This position requires a dynamic leader who is committed to fostering a culture of competitive excellence, integrity, sportsmanship, and student-athlete welfare while adhering to all institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching & Program Development
Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of the men's and women's Track & Field and Cross-Country programs.
Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for student-athletes.
Coordinate practice sessions, competition schedules, and championship preparation.
Recruit, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff.
Promote a culture of compliance, accountability, discipline, teamwork, and competitive success.
Recruiting
Identify, evaluate, and recruit highly qualified student-athletes capable of succeeding academically and athletically.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with high school, junior college, and club coaches.
Conduct recruiting activities in accordance with NCAA, conference, and institutional guidelines.
Develop strategic recruiting plans that enhance program competitiveness and diversity.
Student-Athlete Development
Support the academic achievement and personal growth of student-athletes.
Monitor academic progress and collaborate with academic support services.
Foster leadership development, sportsmanship, and community engagement opportunities.
Compliance & Administration
Ensure strict adherence to all NCAA, conference, university, and departmental rules and regulations.
Work collaboratively with compliance staff to ensure all program activities meet regulatory requirements.
Manage program budgets, equipment purchases, travel arrangements, and operational expenses.
External Relations & Fundraising
Represent the university and athletics department in a professional manner.
Assist with fundraising initiatives and alumni engagement activities.
Participate in community outreach, promotional events, and donor relations efforts..
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
5 years of experience in coaching at the collegiate level
Demonstrated successful coaching experience in track & field and cross country.
Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
Strong recruiting background with a proven ability to attract and retain talented student-athletes.
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree.
Previous NCAA Division I head coaching or high-level assistant coaching experience.
Experience managing budgets and supervising staff.
