Job Title: Assistant Coach -Track and Field Throws

Department:  Athletics

Schedule: Full Time, 30hrs/wk, occasional nights and weekends

Supervisor: Head Coach 

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Dedicate 51% of responsibilities to teaching and coaching the designated sport, emphasizing skill development, team-building, and competitive success.

  • Assist in the daily operations of the program.

  • Oversee a position group as assigned by the head coach.

  • Recruit prospective athletes that fit the mission and culture of the program and University.

  • Organize and conduct on field or onsite coaching during practice and games.

  • Develop scouting reports.

  • Assist with administrative duties such as budgeting, scheduling, travel, equipment management, and inventory management.

  • Assist with field and/or facility maintenance.

  • Assist with program fundraising initiatives.

  • Assist with program community service opportunities.

  • Assist with program marketing and branding on social media.

  • Assist with uniform maintenance and laundry.

  • Assist in the development of camps for the recruitment of student-athletes.

  • Provide mentoring and support for student-athletes regarding academics, player, and leadership development.

  • Comply with all NCAA, conference, and university policies and regulations.

  • Additional duties as assigned by athletic department.

  • Working knowledge of new technology initiatives such as, but not limited to, Rapsodo, Blast, and Trackman.

  • Knowledge of and/or a capacity to learn current skill methodologies preferred.

  • Basic competency in Microsoft Office applications and Google Suite required and/or a willingness and ability to learn and use this digital work, scheduling, and filing systems required.

  • Valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to the university's insurance carrier.

  • Ability to watch and analyze video of opposing teams.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of high school coaching experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training required. College playing experience is preferred. Prior recruiting and sport specific experience preferred. First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred at time of application, and required as a condition of employment.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands and fingers. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance, including prolonged periods of standing and moving. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.  The employee must occasionally travel to meetings and conferences off campus, which may include some overnight travel.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May assist in supervising student staff members who support the specific sport and the athletic department.
