
Position Summary:
Edward Waters University is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as the Assistant Athletic Director for Health and Wellness. This position is responsible for the strategic oversight, coordination, and daily operations of the University’s Athletic Training department, Strength and Conditioning unit, the Fueling Station, the N.E.S.T (Nurturing, Empowering & Supporting Tigers) wellness room, and the Wellness Center.
The ideal candidate will be a certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) with a strong background in sports medicine, athlete wellness, and performance enhancement. This position ensures a comprehensive and collaborative approach to student-athlete health, safety, and well-being, promoting optimal physical and mental performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Health & Wellness Leadership
Provide visionary leadership and direction for health, wellness, and performance initiatives across all athletic programs.
Develop and implement wellness education programs tailored to the unique needs of Edward Waters University’s student-athletes.
Foster a culture of safety, well-being, and performance excellence.
Athletic Training Oversight
Supervise all Athletic Training staff and operations.
Ensure best practices in injury prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play protocols.
Maintain compliance with NCAA, SIAC, and institutional guidelines for sports medicine practices.
Strength & Conditioning
Supervise the Strength and Conditioning coaches and programming.
Collaborate with sport coaches and medical personnel to design training programs that enhance athletic performance while minimizing injury risk.
Fueling Station & Nutrition Support
Oversee operations of the Fueling Station, ensuring access to proper nutritional support for all student-athletes.
Collaborate with coaches and performance staff to deliver nutritional education and guidance on best practices.
Wellness Center Operations
Direct operations of the on-campus Wellness Center, ensuring it is a hub for physical and mental well-being for student-athletes and the broader campus community.
Coordinate programming and partnerships that support holistic health, including mental health services, recovery modalities, and fitness initiatives.
Administrative & Compliance Duties
Develop and manage departmental budgets related to health and wellness areas.
Maintain accurate records and reports related to student-athlete health and performance.
Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies.
Qualifications:
Required:
Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Sports Medicine, or related field.
Current certification from the Board of Certification (BOC) as an Athletic Trainer.
Eligible for or hold licensure in the state of Florida.
Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in athletic health and wellness administration.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred:
Experience in a collegiate athletic department setting.
Experience with ATS and athletic insurance
Experience managing multi-disciplinary health/wellness teams.
Experience with Teamworks
Work Environment & Schedule:
Evening and weekend work is required.
Regular travel with multiple sports teams is expected.
Oversight and management of athletic training services for assigned sports teams will be required.
Active, hands-on environment that involves both clinical and administrative responsibilities.
