
Financial Leadership & Budget Management
· Direct the development, management, and execution of the athletics department’s annual operating and scholarship budgets.
· Ensure fiscal discipline across all sports and administrative units.
· Oversee accurate scholarship allocation tracking (in-state, out-of-state, and international).
· Lead financial forecasting using data-driven models to anticipate revenue and expense trends.
· Provide timely and accurate financial reports to Athletics leadership, university administration, and external stakeholders.
· Recommend corrective actions when budget deviations occur.
Procurement & P-Card Compliance
· Oversee all procurement processes and P-Card usage within Athletics.
· Implement and enforce compliance controls to prevent misuse and over-expenditure.
· Ensure transactions are properly documented, audited, and aligned with university policies.
Collaboration & Institutional Compliance
· Serve as the primary liaison to university budget & finance offices including procurement, general accounting, and budget.
· Serve as the secondary liaison to Human Resources, with primary responsibility for employment-related financial matters (salaries, wages, benefits, and associated costs).
· Ensure compliance with NCAA, institutional, state, and federal financial policies.
· Lead preparation and submission of required reports, including NCAA Agreed-Upon Procedures, EADA, and other mandated filings.
· Serve as the primary liaison to university’s Office of Administration & Finance, including assisting with collection of documents requested via public records requests.
Audit & Risk Management
· Direct the department’s preparation for financial and NCAA audits.
· Work collaboratively with auditors to ensure accuracy and compliance.
· Lead post-audit corrective actions and policy enhancements.
· Identify financial and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Strategic Revenue & Expense Management
· Identify and implement strategies to maximize revenue and reduce expenses.
· Partner with internal and external stakeholders to optimize financial outcomes from multimedia rights, sponsorships, concessions, and other revenue streams.
Supervision & Leadership
· Lead and develop Athletics’ business operations team, including staff in accounting, procurement, and financial reporting.
· Establish a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
· Provide professional development and training opportunities for staff.
· Lead and supervise the Athletic Travel Coordinator, oversee the athletics travel services partnership, and ensure travel planning and expenditures for teams, coaches, and staff align with approved budget parameters.
Long-Range Financial Planning
· Collaborate with Athletics and university leadership on long-term financial models, including capital planning support, new revenue initiatives, and conference transition strategies.
· Ensure financial sustainability while supporting the strategic growth of Fresno State Athletics.
