
Job Summary
The Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the sports medicine staff in delivering comprehensive healthcare services to student-athletes across multiple NCAA Division I athletic programs. Responsibilities include the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; implementation of injury prevention strategies, including taping, protective equipment, and flexibility training; and support of student-athlete health, safety, and well-being. The position is committed to providing equitable, inclusive, and professional care to all student-athletes, regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender. Additionally, the Assistant Athletic Trainer contributes to the educational development of Long Beach State students pursuing careers in athletic training by helping foster a professional clinical learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Cover home events (games and practices) and travel with assigned team(s). Evaluate and treat injuries and provide first-aid care. Plan and implement rehabilitation programs for serious injuries or post-surgical conditions. Keep and maintain medical records for each athlete or sport, including the date of injury, injury evaluation, treatment or rehabilitation protocol, and progress reports. Perform administrative duties as assigned by the Sr Associate Athletic Director, including maintaining inventory records, coordinating student-athlete physicals, or processing insurance. Assist in supervising athletic training students in the training room and at practice or competition facilities.
