Job Description:
The Associate Director has academic oversight for teams as assigned and reports to the Executive Director. This position will supervise an Assistant Director and a Graduate Assistant. This position will serve as the lead advisor for the football team and will also will perform high-level strategic duties including serving as Athletic Department Assistance Program (ADAP) liaison for highly confidential weekly meetings with Athletics Sports Psychology & Counseling staff and Medical Training staff. The goal of the Academic Center's team is to provide a student-centered approach to learning, to ensure academic progress towards degree and eligibility requirements, and ultimately to develop a structure for our student-athletes to earn their degree. The Associate Director will serve as the student-athletes' academic advocate.
Job Responsibilities
Operations & Personnel Management (40%):
• Manage the daily academic operations of assigned teams; Manage a portion of the academic affairs team including an Assistant Director and a Graduate Assistant; Mentor, develop and evaluate direct reports on a regular basis; Keep direct reports abreast of SEC and NCAA academic progress requirements; Meet weekly with coaches to report on student-athlete's progress in detail including current grades, academic progress, and concerns; Communicate with coaches regarding any academic functions, policies and procedures; Utilize standard grade report to communicate student-athlete progress to appropriate constituents; Facilitate dissemination of faculty progress reports to coaches and alert them of any student-athletes experiencing difficulty; Communicate to academic advisors and coaches the eligibility status of their student-athletes; Work in conjunction with Student Learning and other pertinent units to develop a support structure to enhance learning outcomes; Assist in monitoring study hall;
• Communicate regularly with coaches, admissions, and compliance regarding potential recruits; Participate in the recruitment process by meeting with prospective student-athletes and providing them with information about LSU's academic programs and the Academic Center's support programs; Provide preliminary admission and initial eligibility assessments of prospective student-athlete to coaching staffs.
Student Support (35%):
• Responsible for the oversight of the transfer evaluation process of prospective student-athletes for assigned teams; Develop academic plans that outline degree completion within four years; Monitor assigned student-athletes' eligibility and communicate their progress to the appropriate constituents; Work with college academic advisors in advising student- athletes to meet degree requirements; Provide professional and career advice for assigned student-athletes; Oversee and monitor graduation progress and respond to any requests for information regarding student-athletes' degree progress; Assist student-athletes with scheduling of courses ensuring that course schedules are balanced and fit the time and season constraints of the student-athletes; Provide letters of recommendation and submit nominations for awards and scholarships for graduate and professional school;
• Respond to and initiate faculty communication regarding student-athletes with poor academic progress and work cooperatively to design strategies for improved performance; Formulate academic success plans for student-athletes experiencing academic difficulty; Meet weekly with student-athletes with learning challenges and report progress to appropriate constituents; Serve as a mentor to the student-athletes; Inform and advise student-athletes of all SEC and NCAA eligibility requirements; Provide professional level support and programs to student-athletes in accordance with the regulations of LSU, the SEC, the NCAA, HIPPA, FERPA, and ADA.
Program Oversight (20%):
• Serve as the lead advisor for the football team; Oversee Project Graduation for assigned teams for all returning student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility from inquiry to graduation; Serve as Athletic Department Assistance Program (ADAP) Liaison for highly confidential weekly meetings with Athletics Sports Psychology & Counseling staff and Medical Training staff; Co-manage class attendance monitoring for assigned teams; Work collaboratively with athletic administration and assigned team administration to track and manage assigned team's Academic Progress Rate (APR).
Other Responsibilities (5%)
• Participate in Strategic Plan committee as assigned; Act as liaison to admission and other campus offices; Other duties as assigned by leadership.
Additional Requirements
• FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.

• Demonstrate leadership skills and proficiency in administering academic support programming to prepare student-athletes for life after post-secondary education and demonstrate an understanding of student development.
• Exceptional oral and written communications skills.
• Excellent conflict resolution, project management, business management, and human relations skills.
• Must be willing to work irregular hours, nights, and some weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with minimum of 5 years of experience in post-secondary education.
Specific Experience: Knowledge of NCAA and SEC regulations.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree with minimum of 5 years of experience in post-secondary education
Preference given to degrees in counseling, social work, student development, higher education, psychology, or related field.
