The Powerade Football Performance Nutrition Fellow is a structured developmental position designed to provide immersive, hands-on experience in collegiate performance nutrition. Under the supervision of the Director of Performance Nutrition - Football and designated staff, the Fellow will gain foundational knowledge, learn appropriate procedures, and develop applied skills necessary to support Division I student-athletes.
The Fellow will assist in delivering nutrition services for Football while building competency in nutrition assessment, education, and performance fueling strategies. This role emphasizes learning through guided practice, mentorship, and progressive responsibility.
The fellowship will be for 1 year, subject to continuation for an additional year (2 year appointment maximum).

50% Gain foundational knowledge of performance nutrition principles for Football student-athletes; Learn and assist with Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian; Observe and progressively assist with individual and team nutrition counseling sessions; Learn appropriate procedures for conducting nutrition assessments, including body composition testing (e.g., BIA, DEXA)Assist in developing and implementing performance fueling strategies (pre-, intra-, and post-exercise); Support nutrition education efforts, including assisting with team talks and educational materials; Learn to identify and appropriately refer cases related to eating disorder/disordered eating in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; Gain understanding of dietary supplements, NCAA regulations, and banned substances.
25% Learn and assist with fueling station operations, including stocking, inventory, and organization; Assist with data entry and management in systems such as NoteMeal and other sports science platforms; Support ongoing performance nutrition research and complete guided literature reviews; Gain exposure to menu planning and foodservice coordination alongside nutrition and culinary staff; Assist with recruiting events, tours, and presentations to represent the Performance Nutrition Department.
20% Assist the Director of Performance Nutrition and Football Dietitian with assigned daily tasks; Learn and support team logistics, including practice coverage, meals, and game day fueling (home and away); Observe and assist in the supervision and coordination of student volunteers and interns; Attend practices, workouts, meals, and competitions to gain exposure to the full scope of performance nutrition operations; Contribute to departmental projects; Assist with departmental communication efforts, including social media, while adhering to HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
5% Manage and operate football performance nutrition post for @LSUnutrition social media pages; Advances and supports LSU and Athletics Department initiatives through personal participation in educational and developmental opportunities, as well as participation in the creation of an respectful culture consistent with the values of LSU and its Athletics Department; Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Nutrition or related field; Registered Dietitian credential; Ability to obtain licensure in the state of Louisiana upon hire.
Special or Physical Requirements:
Ability and willingness to work extended days, weekends and holidays. Travel is required. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67. Pre-employment physical required.
