 The Athletic Facilities & Game Day Intern supports the Director of Athletic Facilities and Game Day Operations in maintaining athletic facilities and executing successful home athletic events. This position provides hands-on experience in collegiate athletics operations, facility management, and event support.

The intern plays a key role in ensuring athletic facilities remain safe, well-maintained, and ready for competition while also assisting with various aspects of game day operations. From field maintenance and facility upkeep to live event support and game administration, this role offers valuable exposure to the operational side of college athletics.

The ideal candidate is a dependable, hardworking individual who enjoys working both independently and as part of a team. They are comfortable working outdoors, operating equipment, and contributing to the success of athletic events behind the scenes. They possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. This individual is adaptable and enjoys a variety of responsibilities, from facility maintenance to supporting live athletic competitions. They demonstrate professionalism, initiative, and a commitment to creating a positive experience for student-athletes and fans. A successful candidate will take pride in maintaining high-quality facilities and contributing to the smooth execution of game day operations while representing McPherson College with integrity and professionalism.

Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance (80%)

  • Become familiar with all McPherson College athletic facilities, both on-campus and off-campus

  • Assist with implementing and executing maintenance schedules to promote safe and healthy athletic environments

  • Operate and maintain athletic field equipment, including field mowers, turf groomers, and other maintenance tools

  • Support facility preparation and upkeep for practices, competitions, and special events

  • Maintain accurate records of completed work and future maintenance needs 

Game Day Operations (20%)

  • Assist with the execution of home athletic events and game day operations

  • Support activities such as statistics tracking, livestream production, scoreboard operation, ticketing, and event setup

  • Help ensure a positive experience for participants, officials, and spectators

  • Assist with other operational needs related to home athletic contests and special events

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Comfortable operating outdoor power equipment and tools

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks accurately and efficiently

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar word-processing software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with athletic facility maintenance or grounds management

  • Familiarity with athletic event operations and multiple sports

  • Experience working in athletics, recreation, facilities, or event management environments

  • Knowledge of livestreaming, game statistics, scoreboard operation, or related technologies

Work Schedule

The basic work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Alternate scheduling, including evenings and weekends, may be required to support athletic competitions and special events. Overtime may be required based on operational and event needs.
