
The Controller will be responsible for the maintenance of finance records, reporting, internal controls and tax compliance for Spartan Ventures. This role, in conjunction with Spartan Ventures leadership, will manage all financial initiatives related to the activities of the corporation and its subsidiaries.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Properly record and report all financial transactions in a timely manner and in compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate the annual financial audit and preparation of taxes with external audit firm and Michigan State University personnel.
In coordination with the Spartan Ventures CFO, manage the annual fiscal performance of the corporation and its subsidiaries as well as cash management.
In coordination with the Spartan Ventures CFO and human resources leadership, manage relationships with the applicable banking, accounting services and PEO partners.
Advise Spartan Ventures leadership regarding fiscal performance and any related issues.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and financial management and reporting.
7-10 years’ accounting experience with a 501(c)3 organization or familiarity with 501(c)3 accounting principles through 7-10 years’ experience related to a 501(c)3 organization.
Bachelor’s Degree with a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Effective communication (oral, written and interpersonal) skills.
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
Ability to be a self-starter and work independently.
Strong work ethic, positive attitude, integrity, communication skills, and desire & ability to learn in a fast paced, highly competitive industry.
