
Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Commissioner for Institutional Services, the individual selected for this role will manage a service-oriented compliance, academics, governance, and legislative support program for all MAC member institutions. This role acts as a liaison between member institutions, conference leadership, and the NCAA, ensuring effective guidance through contemporary collegiate regulatory frameworks - including direct revenue-sharing models, Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) reporting, roster management, and transfer portal governance.
Additionally, the position will assist in the administration of select student-athlete development initiatives, and additional programs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Regulatory Compliance & Governance
NCAA & Conference Legislation: Interpret and educate member institutions on NCAA Division I FBS regulations, Conference operating codes, and evolving legislation surrounding direct student-athlete revenue sharing, roster limits, and compensation rules.
Reporting Tracking: Oversight of NCAA and Conference reporting requirements.
NIL & Third-Party Compensation: Oversee institutional compliance with NIL reporting protocols (e.g., clearinghouse / NIL Go disclosures) and monitor third-party, collective, and institutional compensation guidelines.
Waivers & Portal Administration: Administer appropriate waiver support, progress-toward-degree exceptions, and oversee institutional compliance within the NCAA Transfer Portal system and transfer windows.
Infractions & Audits: Manage the Conference infractions database, assist with institutional compliance reviews / audits, and provide risk-mitigation guidance on tampering and eligibility disputes.
Financial Aid: Oversee institutional Financial Aid agreement administration and monitor modern athletic aid/roster-limit thresholds across member schools.
2. Institutional Services & Governance Meetings
Compliance Education: Design, lead, and coordinate the Conference’s regular compliance educational programming and workshops for conference / institutional staff, coaches, and administrators.
Coaches & Administrative Meetings: Organize and facilitate annual committee meetings, coaches’ meetings, and senior compliance administrator sessions.
Policy Maintenance: Maintain and continuously update Conference Sport Operating Codes, Bylaws, and Administrative Guidelines to reflect modern athletic operations.
3. Student-Athlete Experience & Championship Administration
Taking MACtion Programming: Help drive 1-MAC programming, ensuring equitable opportunities and support systems across all Conference-sponsored sports.
Awards & Leadership Programs: Assist with MAC Academic Leadership Development Programs, postgraduate scholarship selections, and all-conference academic/athletic awards programs.
4. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Competencies
Required:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Experience: Minimum of 1-5 years of progressive experience in collegiate athletics administration, compliance, or conference office operations.
Core Competencies: Comprehensive understanding of Division I governance, the NCAA Manual, modern transfer rules, and current regulatory trends (NIL, House v. NCAA settlement impacts, Title IX in modern funding).
Technical Skills: Proficiency with modern athletics compliance platforms (e.g., NCAA Portal, Teamworks, NIL reporting tools, Microsoft 365, database management software).
Communication: Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills with an ability to distill complex legal and legislative issues into actionable guidance for varied audiences.
Preferred:
Advanced Degree: Master’s degree, Juris Doctor (J.D.), or higher in Sports Management, Higher Education Administration, etc.
Interpersonal Skills: Proven track record of collaborative problem-solving, diplomatic conflict resolution, and high-level initiative in complex higher education environments.
