
The Athletics Mental Health and Performance Counselor position at New Mexico State University is responsible for providing comprehensive mental health services and performance support to student-athletes within the athletics department. The role focuses on improving student-athlete wellness, emotional health, resilience, and athletic performance in a Division I environment.
Provide individual and group counseling services to student-athletes
Conduct mental health assessments, crisis intervention, and referrals when necessary
Assist athletes with:
Anxiety and stress management
Performance pressure
Injury recovery adjustment
Depression and emotional wellness
Time management and life balance
Develop and lead workshops on mental performance and mental wellness
Collaborate with coaches, athletic trainers, team physicians, academic support staff, and administrators
Maintain confidential clinical documentation and follow ethical/licensing standards
Promote a healthy culture around mental health within athletics
