Head Men's Basketball Coach

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage a basketball program that aligns with the university's mission and values.

  • Instruct and observe student-athletes in individual and team skills.

  • Recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes within the scope of UAA, NCAA, and university guidelines as well as reaching annual recruiting goals.

  • Monitor team and individual academic success and degree completion.

  • Maintain a program compliant with NCAA, UAA, and university rules and guidelines.

  • Build, develop, and maintain contacts and relations with athletic alumni, high school and club coaches and benefactors.

  • Partner with University Development and Alumni Relations to raise funds for the program in conjunction with university, department, UAA, NCAA guidelines.

  • Oversee all necessary administrative responsibilities for the program including budget management and prompt submissions of expenses.

  • Coordinate, supervise and mentor assistant coaches.

  • Perform secondary duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate effective teaching and coaching skills, tactics and techniques

  • Plan and implement game strategies for demonstration at practice and varsity competitions

  • Plan and organize team practices and develop multi-year varsity competition schedules

  • Possess outstanding communication skills and the ability to work with numerous internal staff and constituents.

  • Leadership and motivational abilities. 

  • Highly effective recruiting skills. 

  • Work cooperatively with athletic conference peers and officials.

  • Uphold the brand and positive image of New York University.

  • Observes safety guidelines and follows safety procedures established by the university.

Required Qualifications

  • Up to 3 years' experience as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach at high school or college level or equivalent combination

  • Demonstrated success in coaching, with experience in recruiting, program management, fundraising and student-athlete development

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
