
Description
The Athletic Academics Graduate Assistant position at Oakland University supports the mission of the Athletic Academic Services team by providing academic support, monitoring, and outreach for Division I student-athletes. This position works in conjunction with Athletic Academic Advisors, tutors,sport coaches, administration, and campus partners to promote student-athlete academic success, retention, and NCAA compliance. The Graduate Assistant will have direct interaction with student-athletes and play an active role in study hall operations, academic monitoring, and support initiatives.
Requirements
Academic Support & Student-Athlete Engagement
Provide direct academic support to student-athletes, including study skills development, time-management strategies, academic planning conversations, and referral to appropriate campus resources
Meet individually with at-risk student-athletes to discuss academic progress, concerns, and strategies for success.
Assist with orienting student athletes to campus including but not limited to assisting with book ordering and accessibility, learning university programs such as Moodle and navigating campus
Develop and lead programs to educate transfer student-athletes on Oakland University’s academic processes
Study Center & Study Hall Operations
Oversee daily operations of the Grizz Academic Study Center, including monitoring usage, enforcing study center policies, and promoting a positive and productive academic environment.
Collecting weekly student-athlete attendance and disseminating reports to coaches
Maintain a catalog system for used textbooks
Ensure all academic support services are delivered in compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies.
Academic Monitoring & Reporting
Assist with mid-semester grade review, including communication with faculty, and follow-up with student-athletes as needed.
Assist with NCAA eligibility certification processes in December and April.
Administrative & Program Support
Assist Academic Advisors with student-athlete class registration during designated registration periods (March).
Collaborate and participate in the execution of special events and initiatives, including the Black and Gold Faculty Honoree event and Academic Workshops
Promote and connect student-athletes with beneficial campus resources such as tutoring centers, advising offices, counseling services, and accessibility services.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support the goals of Athletic Academic Services.
Maintain documentation of distributed travel letters throughout the course of the year
