
The Head Coach is accountable for all phases of growing competitive cross country and track & field programs that compete in the Southern Athletic Association. Primary duties include coaching the teams, managing the budget, overseeing game day operations, including travel arrangements, and effectively recruiting student-athletes. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package, including employer-paid health insurance, a 403(b)-retirement plan, tuition waivers, and much more. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Head Coaches’ responsibilities include, but are not limited to, knowing and abiding by all University, NCAA, and Southern Athletic Association rules and regulations; coaching; recruiting; monitoring scholar-athlete academic progress; budgeting; fundraising; and scheduling. The successful candidate must be highly motivated and have a successful coaching record in a competitive cross-country and track & field program. The successful candidate must also provide positive leadership across all aspects of the program and possess strong interpersonal skills to interact professionally with internal and external patrons. Other job duties and responsibilities are to be determined by the Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree is required, and a minimum of three years of coaching experience at the collegiate level is preferred. A valid driver's license is also required.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate should also be knowledgeable about and committed to the NCAA rules and regulations, Title IX, and the SAA. The position will require the ability to demonstrate appropriate technical skills during practice and meetings; the ability to plan, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks; and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Some travel is required.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
This position requires work in a normal office environment as well as on trails and a track; typically running, bending, crouching, and stooping.; use of tools requiring high dexterity is required, as is the occasional lifting of up to 50lbs; use of office equipment, track-and-field equipment, and an alternative work schedule is also required.
