Now with a renewed and bold vision for its future, the Pac-12 has undergone significant transformation on its journey to launching a new collegiate athletics conference, custom-built for both the modern-day student-athlete and an evolving college sports landscape. 

Under the leadership of Commissioner Teresa Gould, the Pac-12 embarks on creating a new legacy, composed of nine member universities, a one-of-its-kind and state-of-the-art broadcast production facility in San Ramon, CA, and a reimagined commercial enterprise that is uniquely positioned to drive strategic partnerships, brand enhancement, revenue generation and other growth opportunities to unlock new and lasting value for both its member universities and its student-athletes. Beginning with the 2026-2027 season, the league is composed of nine full members, including Oregon State University, Washington State University, Boise State University, Colorado State University, California State University, Fresno, Gonzaga University, San Diego State University, Texas State University and Utah State University.

Position Summary

The Director of Compliance and Governance plays a critical role in supporting and administering the Pac-12 Conference’s NCAA and Conference compliance programs as well as developing programming to support student-athletes in a variety of ways. Reporting to the Vice President, Compliance and Legal Affairs, this position works closely with institutional compliance staff and internal Conference stakeholders to ensure consistent application and education of NCAA and Pac-12 rules. Additionally, this position will work directly with institutional student-athlete engagement staff members to help administer the conference SAAC program and create development opportunities for student-athletes to participate in throughout the year. The position is instrumental in maintaining institutional integrity, supporting legislative processes within the conference governance structure, and enhancing the student-athlete experience.

Location

The Pac-12 office is based in San Ramon, CA. This position is open to remote candidates in California, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Idaho, Texas, and Utah.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Rules Education & Interpretation

  • Provide timely and accurate interpretations of NCAA and Pac-12 rules and regulations to Conference members.

  • Develop educational materials and resources for member institutions to promote consistent rule application.

  • Conduct regular training sessions and webinars on high-risk and high-interest compliance topics.

• Legislative Support

  • Assist in the coordination and development of proposed NCAA and Conference legislation.

  • Support legislative review and feedback processes across institutional compliance units.

  • Track legislation and monitor impacts on Conference membership and student-athletes.

• Student-Athlete Welfare 

  • Contribute to Conference initiatives aimed at modernizing NCAA and Pac-12 rules to enhance student-athlete welfare.

  • Maintain knowledge of emerging issues impacting the student-athlete experience (e.g., NIL, House settlement, transfer rules) and develop educational materials for institutional staff and student-athletes.

  • Assist VP, Compliance & Legal Affairs with planning for and implementing Conference SAAC meetings and initiatives. 

  • Collaborate with institutional student-athlete engagement staff to identify resources and educational initiatives throughout the academic year that could be offered to student-athletes.

  • Develop a comprehensive communication plan to ensure student-athletes know about and actively use conference-based opportunities related to education and participation in conference leadership groups.  

  • Administer the conference academic awards program (e.g., academic honor roll, scholar-athlete of the year, etc.).

• Institutional Support

  • Serve as a liaison to member institutions’ compliance staff, providing proactive support and guidance.

  • Serve as a liaison to member institutions’ student-athlete engagement staff, collaborating to develop programming, education and other opportunities to help elevate the student-athlete experience. 

  • Conduct rules education presentations for various campus and conference stakeholders, as assigned.

• Committee Involvement

  • Support the VP, Compliance & Legal Affairs in staffing key compliance-related committees, including but not limited to the Directors of Compliance group, S-A Engagement Advisory Group, Faculty Athletics Representative Committee and conference student-athlete leadership groups.

  • Prepare meeting materials, document proceedings, and assist with follow-up actions and implementation.

• Internal Collaboration

  • Work with Pac-12 Enterprise staff and other departments to ensure adherence to NCAA rules (e.g., use of student-athlete name/image/likeness).

  • Collaborate with internal staff regarding potential synergies between conference sponsors and potential educational opportunities for student-athletes. 

  • Provide guidance related to Conference initiatives, championship operations, and digital media.

  • Assist Sports Management staff with administrative tasks throughout the year and, when approved, support Conference championship administration. 

• Policy and Process Development

  • Help maintain and update Conference compliance manuals, handbooks, procedures, and interpretive guidelines.

  • Support implementation of best practices across the membership and Conference office.

• Other Duties

  • Participate in special projects as assigned by the VP, Compliance & Legal Affairs. 

  • Represent the Conference at NCAA or industry meetings and events as 

appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in NCAA compliance and/or student-athlete services at a Division I institution, conference office, or the NCAA.

• Deep understanding of NCAA Division I rules and governance processes.

• Previous experience working with student-athlete groups (e.g., SAAC).

• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.

• Experience with NCAA software systems (e.g., LSDBi, RSRO) and photo/video editing software (e.g., Canva, Adobe apps) preferred.
