Job Description:

The Head Women’s Golf Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of managing a winning NCAA DIII women’s golf program. The coach should build a sense of community and enthusiasm around the program by engaging the student body, alumni, parents, and fans. Strong relational skills with internal and external constituents are critical. This position coordinates all phases of the program. This position requires flexibility to travel and work weekends and evenings when necessary. This is a 10-month position.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, required in higher education, sports administration, student personnel, business administration, or related field.

  • Three years of college coaching experience in golf is preferred.

  • This position requires a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and insurability by the College's insurance carrier.

  • Must communicate effectively with all types of people and establish and maintain a strong working relationship with students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and other college personnel.

  • Must have the ability to work responsibly with minimal supervision.

  • Must know NCAA rules and regulations.
     

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working within the framework of the athletics Championship Culture by developing competitive teams in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) and nationally within NCAA DIII. Maximize student-athletes’ talents in competition while upholding the institution’s high academic standards by demonstrating a positive coaching philosophy. Competitiveness may be demonstrated by continual improvement in conference standings, qualifying for individual or team playoffs at the conference or NCAA level, and player/coach conference awards.

  • Responsible for developing and implementing a recruiting and retention plan to attract and retain student athletes with strong character and an academic profile that aligns with the mission of Rhodes College and Rhodes Athletics.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the women’s golf team, including but not limited to coaching, building a competitive schedule that will prepare the team for conference and NCAA championship success. An emphasis on player development, physical and mental conditioning, contest preparation, practice planning, organizing and supervising team travel, while maintaining compliance with college guidelines on missed class hours, is paramount to the position.

  • Possession of a thorough knowledge of sport, a sophisticated understanding of coaching strategies, and an ability to enhance student-athlete development. Demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to manage team dynamics as well as professionally handle stressful situations.

  • Collaborate with the College and athletic units, including admissions, financial aid, medical services, strength coach, academic support, judicial affairs, compliance, and development.

  • Recruit qualified applicants for assistant coaching positions, assign job duties, evaluate staff job performance, and mentor staff members.

  • Manage the operational budget while demonstrating fiscal responsibility and oversee the purchase of inventory, uniforms, equipment, facilities maintenance/upgrade, and travel. This includes completing all credit card reconciliations, paying all invoices, and operating within the operating budget allocated by the College.

  • Work with the Rhodes Athletics compliance office to ensure the program and student-athletes comply with all rules of Rhodes College Athletics, Rhodes College, NCAA Division III, and the Southern Athletic Association. Must score a 75 on the annual NCAA Rules Test.

Physical Requirements:

  • Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

  • Position involves both inside sedentary work and work on different fields and on other fitness environments while coaching and training situations with student-athletes.

  • Lifting required (i.e., set-up of scorers’ table, etc.), some manual labor is expected.

  • Evening and weekend hours in all types of weather, with travel is necessary.
