Director of Strategic Communications and Internal Operations

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Sports Information (40%)

  • Lead the collection, verification, and dissemination of accurate, timely statistics, standings, and historical records across all sponsored sports.

  • Serve as chief administrator of the conference website, ensuring consistent, engaging, and up-to-date content.

  • Maintain and oversee all archival records, including record books, historical data, and notable achievements.

  • Direct the administration and selection of conference awards programs, including the production and distribution of honors.

  • Represent the conference in regional and national awards and recognition programs.

  • Resolve statistical discrepancies and serve as the authoritative resource on data standards and reporting practices.

  • Supervise and mentor communications and sports information staff and interns.

  • Oversee production of internal and external publications (e.g., directories, manuals, informational resources).

Media Relations, Content & Brand Strategy (30%)

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications and media strategy aligned with organizational goals.

  • Serve as secondary administrator of the conference’s broadcast and digital network, including oversight of video production and distribution.

  • Produce and manage weekly media releases, storytelling content, and multimedia assets highlighting team and individual achievements.

  • Direct photography, videography, and digital asset management for all conference events.

  • Lead social media strategy, including platform management, content planning, and brand voice development.

  • Coordinate preseason and major media engagement initiatives.

  • Travel to and oversee communications coverage for national championship events and high-profile competitions.

Championships & Event Operations (10%)

  • Serve as Championship or Tournament Director (or designee) for conference events.

  • Coordinate logistics, communications, and operational execution for championships.

  • Lead or participate in pre-event planning calls and post-event evaluations.

Governance & Committee Support (5%)

  • Act as liaison to designated committees, managing agendas, documentation, and follow-up actions.

  • Ensure timely review and communication of relevant policies, legislation, and decisions.

Signature Events & Recognition Programs (5%)

  • Oversee planning and execution of the annual Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet.

  • Coordinate all aspects of honoree recognition, event logistics, and communications.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Initiatives (5%)

  • Promote inclusive storytelling and highlight key cultural and national observances across communication platforms.

  • Elevate and support DEI initiatives across the conference and member institutions.

Additional Duties (5%)

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Commissioner to support strategic priorities and organizational effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Sports Management, Journalism, or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 3-4+ years of progressive experience in communications, media relations, or athletic/conference office administration.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.

  • Expertise in digital media, content creation, and storytelling across platforms.

  • Experience with statistics management systems and athletic communications preferred.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
