Head Women's Soccer Coach

Provide hands-on coaching activities during team practices, individual workouts, and strength training and conditioning activities throughout the academic year (including championship and non-championship segments).

  • Provide competition experience instruction for the student athletes;

  • Provide instruction in sport Skill development through the developing and implementing daily practices focusing on general conditioning, offensive and defensive tactics, and other related elements of the game;

  • Provide skill and tactical instruction in achievement of competitive success;

  • Conduct individual training sessions with players which includes practicing specific related skills matched to their on-court/field positions;

  • Review specific tactics and strategies with all student-athletes, no matter position or talent and related to NCAA Division II and Atlantic Region Competition;

  • To teach students professionalism, maintain proper on and off-field/court etiquette;

  • To teach student-athletes technique and strategy for competition, analyze statistics, video, and data from home and away contests and scout opponents and make line-up selections based on optimizing player personnel and team success;

  • Demonstrate commitment to holistic student-athlete development at the collegiate level, providing a positive student-athlete experience;

  • Commit to student-athlete welfare and personal development by ensuring student-athlete wellbeing and the health and safety of all student-athletes are prioritized.

Provide academic, personal, and professional mentoring to student-athletes.

  • Promote and assist student athletes in their efforts to maintain Academic excellence;

  • Teach life skills and collegiate experience skills to promote student retention and student success;

  • Teach sportsmanship and team discipline and use team rules as a means of teaching life skills, teamwork and team synergy;

  • Encourage team members to attend professional development workshops and networking events on and off campus;

  • Coordinate and help to facilitate academic support services for those in need;

  • Provide an environment where student-athletes learn the value of citizenship, integrity, appreciation for cultural diversity, and respect and responsibility for self and others;

  • Provide an environment that fosters academics as an integral part of college and where the value of education is equal to the value of sport.

  • Encourage and maintain a culture of diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Develop and implement the team’s competition, training, and practice schedules in conjunction with the university or Athletics Department’s staff overseeing game management, facilities and promotions

  • Create a comprehensive playing schedule that includes PSAC, in-region, and out of region opponents while balancing home and away contests;

  • Coordinate practice and game times with the Athletics Department’s administration to minimize conflicts;

  • Coordinate all details for home contests with the Athletic Department’s administration, including parking for visiting teams, visiting team locker rooms, locker room facilities for officials, etc.;

  • Coordinate transportation and amenities associated with travel with the appropriate individuals on campus;

  • Annually provide expenses associated with competition, practice and training in preparation for upcoming year;

  • Utilize ARMS portal for monitoring all Countable Athletically Related Activities (CARA) as well as non-CARA;

  • Regularly submit CARA logs to compliance with individual hours reported.

  • Provide oversight related to all team administrative functions;

  • Comply with all Shepherd University, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, and NCAA Division II policies, annually pass the NCAA Learning Modules and receive and apply NCAA rules education monthly;

  • Prepare and report in a timely manner, particularly regarding athletic budget, eligibility, compliance and travel documentation;

  • Provide oversight and accountability for all program expenditures;

  • Monitor expenses and reconcile all receipts.

  • Prepare purchase requests, stipend requests, and advance requests in a timely fashion.

  • Procure and manage inventory of uniforms, equipment, and supplies.

  • Generate additional funds for the program via fundraising efforts such as camps.

Recruit student-athletes that align with the University’s mission and values and meet the required standards set by the Department of Admissions.

  • Student athlete recruitment and retention;

  • Regularly visit High School, Junior College, club, and travel contests;

  • Use additional resources such as the NCAA Transfer Porta;

  • Reach out to recruiting services in the United States and abroad;

  • Communicate with the Director of Athletics recruitment and retention strategies and efforts in coordination with those set forth by the athletics department and University;

  • Effectively manage athletic scholarships, obtain assigned roster numbers, and net revenue values that have been set for the program.

Hire, train, and supervise Assistant Coaches (full-time, part-time, graduate assistants) and student staff, including but not limited to Manager(s), Statisticians, Scorers, and other bench personnel.

  • Select, supervise and evaluate assistant coaches;

  • Create opportunities for advancement in the field of intercollegiate athletics.

  • Provide regular performance feedback to assistant coaches, managers, and student workers.

Plan and conduct camps and clinics for elementary, middle, and high school players but not limited to:

  • Hire and train all camp personnel, including liability training for each employee.

  • Assist Athletic Administration with the promotion of events, scheduling of events, and tracking of registrations.

  • Utilize the ARMs portal for submitting compliance paperwork related to camp attendance policies and regulations.

General Responsibilities:

  • Create opportunity for students to engage with Alumni/community;

  • Use discretion and professionalism in communicating details of the university’s operations outside of the office, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and security of all personal and financial student information.

  • Follow all policies related to FERPA, Title IX, Title VII, GLBA, and HIPPA regulations.

  • Adhere to the policies and procedures set forth in the University’s Employee Handbook and the athletic department’s Coach’s Manual.

  • Follow all ARMS reporting policies and procedures to meet NCAA compliance.

  • Seek out organizations that might provide insight and a networking resource for continued professional development.

  • Support other athletic programs on campus and stay integrated in the campus community by participating in on campus events outside of athletics.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
