Position Summary: The Associate Director assists with ensuring that the Athletics department complies with the applicable rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the American Athletic Conference (AAC), and Tulane University. This position monitors academic eligibility and amateurism. This position certifies competition eligibility and assists with preparing academic report.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Function: Monitors Academic Eligibility - Serves as the NCAA Eligibility Center liaison; monitors initial eligibility status of incoming student-athletes, including amateur status; monitors academic eligibility status of incoming transfer student-athletes; monitors continuing academic eligibility of returning student-athletes to ensure compliance with NCAA, American Athletic Conference, and University regulations; monitors and prepares reports of degree progress in conjunction with Academic Advising staff; monitors student-athlete seasons of competition; serves as the NCAA Transfer Portal liaison; assists in education efforts surrounding the Transfer Portal; implements effective monitoring systems; and maintain comprehensive and accurate records. (25%)
Function: Certifies Competition Eligibility - Certifies competition eligibility for all student-athletes, including satisfactory progress, GPA, and other necessary benchmarks per NCAA rules each term; works in conjunction with Academic Advising staff and Associate Athletic Director, NCAA Compliance to ensure department policies and procedures follow NCAA bylaws; notifies coaching and support staff of all eligibility statuses and completes eligibility waivers as necessary; completes certification process in an organized, accurate, and timely manner; and informs department staff members of each student-athlete’s eligibility status for the term. (25%)
Function: Monitors Amateurism - Monitors student-athlete employment, prize money, promotional appearances, professional tryouts, and any other issue related to amateurism; monitors and verifies incoming student-athlete amateurism; monitors student-athlete liaison program; maintains record of approved athlete-liaison with the University; assists in education efforts surrounding amateurism issues; implements effective monitoring systems; and maintain comprehensive and accurate records. (25%)
Function: Academic Reporting - Assists with the preparation and monitoring of Academic Performance Rate (APR), Graduation Success Rate (GSR), and other academic-related reports for student-athletes; works with athletic academic advisors to gather necessary information for APR and GSR; works with sport administrators and coaches to project team APR and GSR; ensures APR, GSR and other academic-related reports are accurate; and reports APR, GSR and other academic-related reports to the NCAA by the designated deadline. (10%)
Function: Research & Communication - Assists with NCAA rules interpretation research and communication; assists Associate Athletic Director for Compliance with rules education; investigates and processes secondary violations; files with NCAA/AAC waivers as necessary; and communicates with coaches and staff in a timely, accurate, and effective manner. (10%)

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree
2 years of NCAA compliance experience
OR
High School Diploma or Equivalent
8 years of NCAA compliance experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies:
Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and AAC rules and regulations
Ability to collaborate effectively with various departments and constituencies
Strong management and analysis skills
Ability to demonstrate initiative and organize activities
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Attention to detail
Excellent computer skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree or Juris Doctor
Proficiency in NCAA systems, compliance software, Teamworks, and Banner
NCAA Related:
Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
