Assistant Director of Creative Content

The Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA), founded in 1891, is a nonprofit organization whose objective is to "promote, influence, and assist in financing the varsity athletic programs of the midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy" in accordance with the policy of the Superintendent of the Academy. Through an intercollegiate athletics program that is one of the largest in the country, every midshipman is afforded the opportunity to compete in athletics at the Division I level. The emphasis on physical fitness is borne out in the first line of the mission of the U.S. Naval Academy: To develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically.

 

Summary

Produce high-level video content for Naval Academy Athletics that includes shooting and editing dynamic pieces for all platforms, i.e. website, social channels, television, video boards, live production, etc. Responsible for content creation plans and execution for assigned projects by the Director of Creative Content. Work closely with external departments to ensure full integration and interactivity with all digital platforms.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Aid in all storytelling, multimedia and creative video efforts for Navy Athletics

  • Assist the Director of Creative Content in the coverage of Navy’s 36 varsity sports

  • Assist the Director of Creative Content with video initiatives, filming and interviews needed for administrators and staff

  • Assist the Director of Creative Content with creating and updating videoboard content within NAAA facilities and the Ron Terwilliger Center for Student-Athletes

  • Content creator for selected team intro and promotional videos as assigned by the

  • Director of Creative Content.

  • Work with Midshipmen videographers to film various games throughout the year

  • Assist with Navy Athletics social media accounts & with department’s digital and social media strategy

  • Responsible for archiving and logging footage from video content, live streams & broadcasts for selected sports as assigned by the Director of Creative Content.

  • Responsible for shooting and editing content for home and neutral site Army-Navy Star Series competitions as assigned by the Director of Creative Content.

  • Serves as a staff member of a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) -sanctioned athletics program, and understands that NCAA rules and regulations must be followed and strictly adhered to. Maintains an understanding and awareness of applicable NCAA rules via annual compliance briefs to staff, the NCAA Manual, copies of which are maintained in the Compliance Office, regular compliance item e-mails generated by the Compliance Office, and the NCAA official website (ncaapublications.com – Div I Manual). Immediately notifies the Compliance Office if a  potential violation of NCAA rules is observed. Understands that non-compliance with NCAA rules and regulations may be grounds for termination of employment.

Qualifications

Experience, Education, & Certification(s)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Multimedia, or a related field of study.

  • Extensive experience shooting with broadcast and cinema-line cameras (e.g., Sony FX series, Canon C-series, RED) as well as mirrorless setups for run-and-gun sideline shooting.

  • High proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop) to quickly turn around highlight reels, hype videos, and social media content under tight deadlines.

  • 1-3 years of experience in a college athletics environment preferred

 Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Familiarity with live-stream setups, control room environments, and capturing in-game footage for immediate social media distribution.

  • Skilled in operating gimbals (e.g., DJI Ronin) and various audio recording equipment to ensure high production value in loud, chaotic environments.

  •  Ability and eagerness to learn all unfamiliar sports and to adapt within a college athletic department.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.

  • Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
