Assistant Football Coach - Defense/Special Teams Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • Plans and organizes the details of the team, including skill teaching and development, practice organization, coaching, and player selection. 

  • Evaluates individual performance and provides leadership and instruction in areas of deficiency as required.

  • Implements team discipline, decision making, and independent judgment.

  • Directs the work of student workers and volunteer assistant coaches. 

  • Comply with institutional, Midwest Conference, University Athletic Association, and NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Serves on professional departmental committees.

  • Ensures student-athletes and athletic representatives are informed of and comply with NCAA and University rules and regulations.

  • Represent the University of Chicago in professional, alumni, and civic functions.

  • Performs recruitment of student-athletes.

  • Has a moderate/high level of authority to participate in staff meetings, individual planning meetings, and parent-student staffing.

  • Helps staff to plan and execute events.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.


Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's degree.

Experience:

  • Significant and relevant playing or teaching/coaching experience in Football at the professional, collegiate, or high school level.

Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Competencies

  • Familiarity with NCAA rules and Division III philosophy.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments concurrently.  

  • Proficient in computer skills; Microsoft Office and other software.

Working Conditions

  • This role will perform many tasks outdoors.

  • Travel to various on and off-campus locations

  • Carry or lift loads and push/pull objects up to 25 lbs.
