
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Marketing and Community Engagement supports the strategic marketing, fan experience, and community outreach initiatives of Kansas Athletics and assigned sport programs. This position develops and executes marketing campaigns that increase revenue, attendance, and fan engagement while strengthening connections between Kansas Athletics and the Lawrence community. This role includes gameday presentation management, student engagement initiatives, and coordination of community outreach programs. The Assistant Director also contributes to the marketing internship program through supervision, mentorship, and operational support.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
Develop and implement strategic marketing and promotional plans for Volleyball, Softball, Tennis, and Golf.
Assist with email marketing initiatives that support ticket sales and fan communication.
Execute and oversee in-game promotions, presentations, giveaways, and overall game atmosphere.
Write and execute scripts for gameday production and presentations for Volleyball and Softball.
Recruit and onboard student marketing assistants.
Provide leadership and mentorship to student staff during events and projects, including oversight of Tennis and Golf marketing initiatives.
Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with campus departments, local schools, community organizations, and grassroots networks to increase attendance, enhance engagement, and expand Kansas Athletics’ presence in Lawrence and surrounding communities.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum of one year of experience in marketing, promotions, fan engagement, or a related field.
Demonstrated ability to write scripts and clearly communicate ideas and plans in both written and verbal formats.
Working knowledge of Big 12 Conference and NCAA guidelines related to marketing, community engagement, fan experience, and game management.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proven problem-solving skills with a solutions-oriented approach.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
Ability and willingness to work home sporting events, evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in collegiate athletics marketing.
Supervisory or student leadership experience.
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to: cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

Travel
Occasional travel may occur for this position for specific sport post-season success, professional development, or as needed during peak sport seasons.
Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the position. Early morning, evening and weekend work maybe required.
