
The University of Missouri–St. Louis is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Part-Time Assistant Tennis Coach to support the university’s Men’s and Women’s Tennis programs. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach to plan and execute effective practices, support student-athletes during competition and team travel, and assist with the overall operation of both tennis programs.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of tennis, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a collegiate athletic environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Practice Planning & Execution
● Assist the Head Coach in developing and organizing daily practice plans.
● Help lead and execute on-court practices, drills, live-ball activities, match-play situations, and other training sessions.
● Provide technical and tactical instruction to student-athletes.
● Assist in creating an energetic, competitive, and positive practice environment.
● Provide individual feedback and instruction to players as directed by the Head Coach.
● Help ensure practices are organized, efficient, and aligned with team goals.
Competition & Team Travel
● Assist the Head Coach with team travel for regular-season competitions and tournaments.
● Support student-athletes before, during, and after competitions.
● Assist with match preparation, warm-ups, court assignments, and other competition-day responsibilities.
Team Operations
● Assist the Head Coach with the day-to-day operations of both the Men’s and Women’s Tennis programs.
● Help maintain a positive team culture and promote accountability, sportsmanship, and academic success.
Qualifications
Required:
● Playing and/or coaching experience in tennis.
● Strong knowledge of tennis fundamentals, strategy, and training principles.
● Ability to effectively communicate and work with collegiate student-athletes.
● Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach and athletics staff.
● Ability to travel with the team and work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends during the competitive season.
Preferred:
● Collegiate playing or coaching experience.
● Previous experience working with competitive junior or collegiate tennis players.
● USPTA, PTR, or RSPA certification.
Time Commitment
This is a part-time position with the majority of responsibilities centered around team practices, competitions, and team travel. The position will require flexibility, particularly during the competitive season, with potential evening and weekend responsibilities.
