Athletics Broadcast Operations Graduate Assistant

Summary

This graduate assistantship supports live production operations for the University of North Florida Athletics Department’s 19 Division I teams, pertaining to ESPN+ broadcasts as well as a handful of internal and external events. This position plays a critical role in ensuring all broadcasts meet or exceed ESPN+, Atlantic Sun Conference, NCAA, and institutional broadcast standards, delivering a professional, consistent, and high‑quality viewing experience.

Anticipated start date is August 2026. The position will receive a tuition stipend equivalent to in-state tuition and a bi-weekly stipend. This graduate assistant position is a two-year appointment, renewable after the first year at the discretion of the athletic department.

North Florida Athletics Broadcast Operations (ESPN+) staff is an extension of the North Florida Athletics Communications Department that is responsible for the broadcast operations for all 19 NCAA Division I programs, which compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The department currently produces over 100 live sporting event streams for ESPN+ that include men’s soccer, volleyball, women’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and track and field, swimming and beach volleyball. These productions are of a professional-level quality, are regularly critiqued by ESPN producers and have been previously honored with awards from both the Broadcast Education Association and Sports Video Group.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support live ESPN+ broadcasts across multiple sports throughout the academic year

  • Operate a variety of control room positions including director, producer and replay

  • Create, prepare, and operate graphics using Ross XPression Studio and Dashboard for ESPN+ broadcasts

  • Assist with the setup, operation, and breakdown of broadcast equipment

  • Help to train and supervise student interns and broadcast crews, emphasizing professionalism, preparation, and adherence to ESPN+ protocols

  • Maintain organization of the control room and readiness of production equipment

  • Troubleshoot technical issues in live, pre- and post-production environments

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Admission to a University of North Florida graduate program (must be accepted as a graduate student to accept GA position)

  • A minimum of a year of prior experience in live broadcast production  

  • Strong interest in sports broadcasting and live production environments

  • Significant availability on nights, weekends, and select holidays based on competition and broadcast schedules.

  • Ability to lift and move production equipment (50 lbs. or more)

 

 Preferred:

  • Familiarity with ESPN+ or collegiate athletics production workflows

  • Working knowledge of live production roles (technical director, graphics, replay, camera, audio)

  • Experience operating Ross Xpression Studio, Ross Mira Replay, and Ross Carbonite switchers

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro

  • Familiarity with audio mixers, video routing, and AV signal flow through fiber optics

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others in a professional, team-oriented environment.
