Assistant Director of Video Services

Position Summary:

The position is responsible for designing, organizing, and producing various video content. The position will be responsible for live event production and web streaming for assigned events within UNC Athletics. The position will also contribute to the management of new media efforts. The position will work in coordination with all external units of the Athletics Department to maximize engagement across all media platforms.

Job Duties:

1. Video Content Production (45%)
      • Create and develop department-wide video content for advertising and promotions, ticket sales, branding, etc.
      • Work with Athletics team members on game day scripts and presentation of the in-game experience as it relates to the video boards and creative content for social media and other platforms.
      • Assist with the management of video boards and production software & hardware, including staying up-to-date on the latest technology and opportunities for increased video promotion and branding.
2. Live Event Production (35%)
      • Plan and produce game day video. roll-ins, animations, highlights, and other videos during live events for assigned broadcasts.
      • Assist in recruiting, hiring, and managing game day production crews, including freelancers (Independent Contractors), and/or student staff, who operate equipment during live productions.
      • Coordinate live event production with direct oversight of production crew while working with game day marketing staff for assigned sports.
      • Work with athletic conferences and streaming companies to ensure required events are broadcast live for assigned events.
3. Work with Athletics team members to create graphics and animation packages for live production events and creative content. (5%)
4. Assist with the management and maintenance of video equipment inventory and connectivity. (5%)
5. Assist the Director to catalogue and archive videos, photos, and projects for future internal and external use. (5%)
6. Other miscellaneous duties. (5%)

 

This position requires a high degree of creativity, resourcefulness and multi-tasking. The primary area where creativity takes place occurs during the production of video content. These videos are viewed by student-athletes, recruits, donors, alumni, media, and fans. This requires significant creativity and collaboration.

This position requires a thorough knowledge of live production equipment, cables, and connections. The person in the position would need to know how to troubleshoot live production equipment in high-pressure situations. Examples include signals not being received or cables that are faulty. This also includes developing ways to implement new technology and ideas into live productions. Furthermore, this position oversees all maintenance and use of the Bear Vision production trailer.

Multi-tasking comes into effect almost every day. Being able to handle any task that needs completion while also being able to put a task aside and take care of another, more timely task, is essential. This person works with the entire department and there are often a multitude of events that need to be covered on the same day.

The position will serve as the broadcast contact for assigned events and oversee video production for all sports. This includes working with independent contractors and students as well as engaging with athletics staff on a daily basis to produce video for athletics games and events.

The position will require the supervision of part-time/student workers and interns (up to 20 dependent upon sport season) involved in the game day activities, operations, and office work. This position will also oversee Independent Contractors.

This position will assist the supervisor to recruit, train, supervise and evaluate student workers, interns, and Independent Contactors dependent upon job function during events and office settings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a field such as Communications, Video Production, Graphic Design, etc., or a related field. A master's degree or equivalent experience preferred.

At least one year of experience in college athletics, sports broadcasting, or a related field. Employment as a student and/or graduate assistant will be considered.

Prefer progressive, results-oriented experience in collegiate or professional sports. Strong video production, organizational and presentation skills, familiarity with graphic design software including Adobe Suite of products, high computer literacy, and strong knowledge of social media.

Familiarity and experience with coordinating game days. Must be a self-starter, able to work independently, and enjoy creating and implementing new initiatives. Sincere commitment to working collaboratively with all constituent groups, including Athletics staff, volunteers, and University personnel. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and/or material with discretion. Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective relationships with staff, coaches, alumni/donors, campus and community leaders. Must be able to represent the Athletic Department in a positive manner.
