Assistant Director of Photography

The Assistant Director of Photography contributes to the overall vision and goals of Oklahoma Athletics by capturing moments and engaging content that tells the story of our athletics programs and student-athletes through photo. The Assistant Director assists the Director of Photography in coverage/support for all photography-related requests and collaborates with the creative staffs to elevate departmental initiatives while ensuring a cohesive style across all department photography.

Essential Functions:

  • Support and manage the department’s digital archive, performing accurate editing, correction and photo organization

  • Collaborate with the Director of Photography, student intern and freelance staff to ensure adequate coverage of events and functions and a cohesive style across all department photography

  • Attend and take photos at photoshoots, department events and games as assigned

  • Assist in the coordination of photoshoots for each sport program, providing both sport staff and external areas with high-quality headshot and portrait-style photographs.

  • Participate in new content development and idea generation to help drive the brand and narrative of Oklahoma Athletics

  • Collaborate with creative staffs to develop creative direction and assist in its execution with student-athletes at photoshoots

  • Collaborate with departmental stakeholders including but not limited to Communications, Marketing, SoonerVision and coaching staffs to continually align and elevate departmental initiatives.

  • Ability to work some nights and weekends with occasional travel to cover events and functions

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree Graphic Design, Photography, Communications or related field

  • 12 months of professional photographer experience      

  • Photography experience must include in-game sport photography and studio or location photoshoots

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years of experience as a professional photographer

  • Knowledgeable of basic photography-related software, including but not limited to Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom, Photoshelter, Photomechanic and INFLCR.

  • Experience in Digital Asset Management systems, knowledge in metadata, organizing and archiving files.

  • Basic knowledge in wireless file transmitting and FTP systems.

  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail

  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion

  • Adherence to University, Conference, and NCAA rules

  • Knowledgeable of athletics

  • Practice a professional attitude when working with outside sources

  • Develop a good rapport with other members of the Athletics Department

  • Studio, location photoshoots, and in-game photography for various sports
