The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Assistant Track & Field Coach in the Department of Athletics. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of administration and operation of a highly competitive Division I collegiate men’s and women’s track and field and cross-country program. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to assisting with practice in the areas of sprints and relays and evaluation and recruitment of prospective student-athletes. In addition, the applicant must possess the following skills: high level of organization, basic computer skills, and knowledge of equipment ordering and organization is preferred. The candidate must be able to work amiably with students, parents, administrators, and faculty within the rules and regulations of the University, the conference, and the NCAA.

Job Summary

Assists the Head Coach with all aspects of a sports program. Recruits athletes, mentors athletes, fosters athletic, emotional, and academic group of student athletes. Oversees sports equipment, practice plans and schedules, skill development, designs coaching strategies. Oversees public and media relations. Coordinates team travel and schedule. Adheres to all rules and regulations.

Essential Functions 

Coaching – Incumbent will be responsible for carrying out coaching assignments during daily workouts, practices, and scheduled events. Will also be responsible to enforce team rules, maintain statistics, monitor assigned student athletes’ performance, and employ specific coaching modalities to meet needs. Recruiting – Incumbent will be responsible for recruiting student athletes, assisting with departmental recruiting activities, and carrying out scouting assignments. Administrative Duties – Incumbent will be asked to assist with general administration duties, including team travel, equipment, and budget. Incumbent will be required to work with the facilities coordinator to adhere to practice and competition schedules. Physical conditioning – Incumbent will be responsible for consulting with athletic trainers and team physicians in monitoring the well-being of student athletes. Academic monitoring – Incumbent will be required to assist with monitoring the academic progress of student athletes. Other duties assigned by Head Coach. 

Physical Effort 

Instructing and demonstrating physical skills while coaching; extensive travel via car, air and bus. Must stand for long periods of time at meets and practices. May participate in drills or practices. May have to lift or transport equipment.
