Work Schedule:

USC Upstate standard office hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. However, this position will involve some evening, weekend, and/or traveling with the sports team.

The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and Social Media, who reports to the Senior Associate AD for External Operations, will serve to expand the overall awareness of the University, athletics department, student-athletes, and coaches to the faculty/staff on-campus and in the greater community as well as support the public relations value for the university's mission and vision. This position will serve as the primary Communications contact for three to four assigned sports with creative input across the department.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience:

Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials:

Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of related experience in sports information, media relations or athletic communications. Experience as a lead communications representative for two or more programs is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Good driving record and successful background check are required. Able to travel frequently with sports teams. Ability to work long hours, nights and weekends as needed. Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks at once. Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Utilization of AP style writing; must have excellent writing skills for the purpose of writing press releases, social media, etc. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as they relate to communications and public relations. Exposure to NCAA Genius stat programs, Adobe Creative Suite, social media platforms, shooting/editing video.

Job Duties:

Job Duty

Design and produce the social media and public relations strategy for the assigned programs within the athletic department. This position is expected to be embedded with assigned programs and be the authority on information about each program.

Create graphics and short form video for assigned sports. Provides creative leadership for social media strategy for the entire athletics department for use on the departmental website, all social media platforms, and edit game/event/interview highlight clips.

Work in collaboration with the Assistant AD of Video Services and Digital Strategy to set up video shoots, produce website and social media content, and coordinate team pictures and promotional media days.

Responsible for writing and producing press releases, game notes and game releases, feature stories, social media content, and engaging coverage for assigned USC Upstate programs.

Coordinate all administrative duties within the Athletics Communications Office, with responsibility for student worker hiring, supervision, task instruction, scheduling, timesheet review and approval, and related office support functions.
