Assistant Coach, Strength and Conditioning

This role requires full responsibility of assigned sport programs, including daily coaching, athlete development, and performance tracking. The Assistant Coach will collaborate with sport coaches and sports medicine staff to deliver individualized training and nutrition strategies while maintaining a high-performance environment built on accountability, consistency, and attention to detail.

 

The position also includes assisting in the daily operation of the weight room, including equipment maintenance and facility organization, while upholding standards for a clean, safe, and efficient training environment. 

 

Position Responsibilities

Strength and Conditioning (90%)

  • Design, implement, and manage pre-season, in-season, and off-season strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams. 

  • Evaluate athlete performance and identify strengths and weaknesses to develop targeted training strategies. 

  • Develop and execute individualized training plans, including implementation of testing protocols and ongoing performance tracking. 

  • Monitor and assess program effectiveness using objective data and adjust training based on athlete progress and performance outcomes. 

  • Coach daily training sessions with a high level of energy, attention to detail, and adherence to program standards.

Administration and Operations (5%)

  • Assist in the daily operation of strength and conditioning facilities, including equipment maintenance, organization, and scheduling of team training sessions. 

  • Contribute to equipment management, including identifying needs and assisting with purchasing decisions.

Other (5%)

  • Assist in other duties, responsibilities, and assignments as determined by the Director of Athletics and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.

 

Competencies

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively coach, instruct, and build relationships with student-athletes and staff. 

  • Ability to assess athlete readiness and body composition, and apply findings to support performance and development goals. 

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while taking ownership of assigned responsibilities. 

  • Strong organizational, time management, and record-keeping skills, with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable regulations, including Compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

  • Ability to coach and demonstrate proper lifting technique, movement mechanics, and training execution at a high level.

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Health, Nutrition, or a related field. 

  • 1–3 years of collegiate or relevant strength and conditioning experience. 

  • Current Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) certification and/or National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification. 

  • Current CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain within one month of hire). 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and regulations. 

  • Ability to safely demonstrate and coach proper lifting technique, spotting, and movement mechanics.

  • Experience implementing performance testing and tracking athlete development.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and basic technology skills relevant to strength and conditioning environments.
