
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
Provide prevention, injury assessment, immediate medical care, treatment, conditioning, medical referrals and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries and illnesses
Provide coverage at all Men’s Basketball events including practices, conditioning, and contests as well as travel with the team to all away contests
Provide medical care for Men’s golf team and cover any home events as directed
Responsible for coordinating and scheduling appropriate physician referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete
Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks
File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents
Maintain a daily treatment log for all student-athletes
Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs
Manage and maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room
Communicate with student-athletes, staff, medical providers, coaches, parents & administration in accordance with NATA, WKU & HIPPA guidelines
Assist with following rules of the NCAA, Conference USA, and Western Kentucky University
Other duties as assigned by the Sr Executive Director – Sports Medicine & Student-Athlete Welfare
Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success:
Experience working as an athletic trainer with the sport of Basketball
Excellent communication skills
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
Strong attention to detail
Must be self-motivated and team-oriented
Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills
Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends
The duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed in a competent manner following the highest standards for leadership, professionalism, integrity, accountability, responsibility, cooperation and customer service
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in athletic training or related field required
Certified through National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) in good standing
Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure eligible
Current CPR/AED certified for healthcare provider
