Executive Associate AD for Administration

Reporting directly to the Director of Athletics, the Executive Associate Athletic Director for Administration serves on the Athletics Director’s leadership team. This position is responsible for coordinating, administering, and evaluating assigned Division I sports programs, providing oversight for designated administrative areas, and representing Tribe Athletics at conferences, NCAA, and national meetings. The role serves as the primary liaison with the Faculty Athletic Representative and other campus partners. The position acts as a representative of the University, serving as a Title IX coordinator, and demonstrates courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with the William & Mary community, student-athletes, alumni, and the public.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
• Provides executive supervision and administrative oversight for assigned athletics units and operational areas.
• Serves as sport administrator for designated men's and women's Division I programs.
• Collaborates with campus partners (including, but not limited to, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, and Residential Life) and community entities to advance the strategic goals of Tribe Athletics and William & Mary.
• Works closely with the Director of Athletics and executive team to develop, implement, and evaluate department policies, priorities, and goals, with a focus on student-athlete success, equity, and the integration of academics and athletics.
• Serves as a Title IX coordinator for athletics, partnering with campus offices to promote compliance, equity, and a safe environment, as well as manages the annual process of monitoring and reporting Title IX efforts.
• Fosters a culture of compliance to ensure adherence to conference, NCAA, and institutional rules and regulations.
• Represents William & Mary at conference and national levels, contributing to governance and policy discussions.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.

  • Proven leadership and strategic management abilities in a complex environment.

  • Strong organizational skills, with exceptional attention to detail and relationship-building capabilities.

  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven setting.

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, ability to track legislative changes and interpretations of the rules and perform analysis of the application of rules as intended.

  • Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively, thoroughly, and accurately to student-athletes, coaches, and administrators both internally and externally.

  • Knowledge of Title IX history, its application to collegiate athletics, and continuous research to ensure awareness and understanding of most current rulings and past precedence.

  • Substantial professional experience in Division I collegiate athletics administration or higher education leadership (typically 5+ years).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience collaborating with campus units such as Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Residential Life, Career Services, Business Affairs, and academic support services.

  • Background in overseeing academic support services, student-athlete development, wellness, and high-performance initiatives.

  • Experience serving on conference and/or national NCAA committees.

  • Demonstrated success in building partnerships across campus and in the broader community.

 

Conditions of Employment: 

  • Position will require working hours outside of normal business hours.

  • Position will require travel to conferences and events.
